Vajacial for Ingrown Hairs vs a Brazilian Wax | With Love, Beauty

Vajacial for Ingrown Hairs vs a Brazilian Wax

People ask me some version of this every week: "If I'm getting bumps after waxing, do I need a vajacial for ingrown hairs, or should I just keep waxing?" It's a fair question, because the two services sound like they do the same job. They really don't. A Brazilian wax removes hair, and a vajacial takes care of the skin that hair grows through. Once you look at them that way, it gets a lot easier to decide what to book, and that's what this post is for.

If you want the background on why ingrowns form in the first place, I already covered that in my guide to ingrown hairs and bikini bumps. Here I'm putting the two services side by side so you can pick one, or decide you want both, before you book a vajacial in Miami.

Vajacial vs Brazilian Wax: What Each One Actually Does

The Brazilian wax on my menu is $60 and takes about 30 minutes. It covers the pubic bone, the labias and the butt strip, and I use hard wax from Italwax and Waxness, which grips the hair rather than the skin. It includes a disposable pre-service wipe, a high-frequency treatment after the wax to calm the skin, and post-service care. If it's your first time with me, you also go home with a complimentary exfoliating glove and a serum sample.

The vajacial is $70 and runs about 35 minutes. Think of it as a facial for the bikini area: a cleanse tailored to your skin type, exfoliation, extractions, a mask, high-frequency treatment and serums. There's no hair removal in it at all. Its whole job is the skin, so it's where trapped hairs, dark spots and rough texture get some real attention.

So the honest comparison isn't about which one is better. It's about which problem you're trying to solve. Hair you want gone is a wax question. Bumps and marks that hang around after the hair is gone are a skin question, and that's where the vajacial comes in.

When a Brazilian Wax Alone Is Enough

Plenty of my clients never add anything, and that's completely fine. If your skin stays calm after a wax, you rarely see bumps, and you're keeping a regular schedule, the wax on its own is doing its job. Waxing takes the hair from the root, so you skip the blunt, angled tips a razor leaves behind, and most people who come back every 4 to 6 weeks notice their regrowth coming in finer and sparser over time.

What you do between visits matters more than most people expect. Let the hair reach about a quarter inch (roughly the length of a grain of rice), skip shaving for 2 to 3 weeks before your appointment, and gently exfoliate a day or two before you come in. All of that helps the wax grip properly, which means fewer hairs snapping at the surface instead of coming out clean. That exfoliating glove first-timers get isn't just a cute freebie.

When a Vajacial for Ingrown Hairs Makes More Sense

If you're doing all of that and still dealing with bumps, dark spots that linger, or hairs you can see stuck under the skin, that's when I suggest a vajacial. If you've been searching for an ingrown hair facial in Miami, this is the one I mean. The extraction step is the big difference: I release trapped hairs carefully, which is a whole lot kinder to your skin than picking at them at home (please don't). The exfoliation and mask steps then leave the skin smoother, so the next round of hair has an easier time growing out instead of getting stuck.

You also don't have to be a waxing client to book one. If you shave, or you're between wax appointments, the vajacial can be booked on its own from the specialty menu. Shavers are often the people dealing with the most bumps, so it's worth knowing this isn't a wax-only service.

One thing I'll always be upfront about: a vajacial is skincare and grooming, not medical care. If something looks infected, feels really painful or just seems off, that's a question for your doctor rather than your esthetician.

Booking Both: The Brazilian + Vajacial

If you've got hair you want gone and skin that's been giving you grief, the Brazilian + Vajacial is $100 and takes about 80 minutes. It costs less than booking the two separately, and it's one trip to Bird Road instead of two. The vajacial after the wax also helps soothe freshly waxed skin, which is a nice bonus if you tend to get red.

For clients who get ingrowns a lot, I usually suggest starting with the combo, seeing how your skin responds over the next few weeks, and then settling into a rhythm. Some people keep the vajacial on every visit for a while, and others drop to adding it every other wax once things calm down. There's no single right answer, and I'd much rather adjust to what your skin is actually doing than lock you into a plan.

If you want a quick way to choose, here's how I'd break it down:

  • Book the Brazilian wax if hair removal is the goal and your skin stays calm afterward.
  • Book the vajacial if you shave, or if bumps and dark spots bother you more than the hair does.
  • Book the Brazilian + Vajacial if you want both handled in one appointment.

Everything is laid out on my waxing menu, including small add-ons like Inner Thighs for $12 if that's another spot where you tend to get bumps.
